Billing & Refund Policy

This policy is part of the Terms of Service. It explains how Motionscript LLC bills for paid plans. Questions about a charge: billing@motionscript.dev.

Plans

PlanWho it's forHow it's billed
FreeOne person: trying Motionscript, personal projectsNo charge, and no payment method needed
ProfessionalOne personMonthly, or annually at a lower monthly rate
BusinessOrganizations with membersPer editor seat, monthly, or annually at a lower monthly rate

Each workspace has its own plan and is billed separately. When you create an account in the web app, you get one Free cloud workspace. You can own one Free workspace at a time; additional workspaces need a paid plan.

Current prices, limits and AI credit allowances are on the pricing page, and the price you'll pay is shown at checkout before you confirm. Prices are in U.S. dollars.

There is no free trial of paid plans. The Free plan is the way to try Motionscript, and it doesn't expire.

Taxes

Prices don't include tax. We add the sales tax, VAT or similar tax that applies where you are, calculated by Stripe from your billing address. Businesses can enter a tax ID at checkout, and it appears on their invoices.

Where paid plans are available

Paid plans aren't currently available to billing addresses in the European Union or the United Kingdom. Anyone can use the Free plan.

Payment

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers. Receipts and invoices are emailed to you and listed in Settings → Billing.

Annual plans are paid upfront for 12 months. Monthly plans are paid at the start of each month of service.

Automatic renewal

Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period, monthly or annual as you chose. We charge the payment method on file the then-current price plus tax, until you cancel.

  • Annual plans. We email you a reminder at least 30 days before each renewal.
  • Price changes. If a price changes, we tell you at least 30 days before your next renewal at the new price, and you can cancel before then.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time in Settings → Billing → Manage subscription.

Cancellation stops the next renewal. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for, and then your workspace moves to the Free plan. We don't charge you again after you cancel.

How Business seats work

  • Paid seats. Owners, admins and creators are editors, and each uses a paid seat. A pending invitation to an editor role holds a seat until it's accepted, withdrawn or expires.
  • Viewers are free, up to three viewers for each paid seat. Viewers can see and comment but not edit.
  • Free and Professional workspaces are for one person. They have no other members, not even viewers. To invite someone, upgrade the workspace to Business. Moving a Business workspace back to Professional needs its other members removed first.
  • Removing seats. You can't reduce seats below the number of editors in the organization, or below one seat for every three viewers. Change roles or remove members first.

AI credits

  • Allowance. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of AI credits, used by the Motionscript assistant. Annual plans get the same allowance each month.
  • No rollover. Unused credits don't carry over to the next month.
  • No cash value. Credits have no cash value, aren't refundable, and can't be transferred or sold.
  • Running out. When your credits run out, those features pause until your allowance resets or you upgrade.
  • Your own AI tool is free. Connecting your own AI tool to the desktop app doesn't use credits.

Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails:

  • Retries. Stripe retries it over about two weeks, and we email you so you can update your payment method in Settings → Billing. Your plan stays active meanwhile.
  • Move to Free. If the payment still can't be collected, the subscription ends and the workspace moves to the Free plan. If its owner already owns another Free workspace, the whole workspace becomes read-only until it's upgraded again or deleted.
  • Over-limit content. Content above the Free plan's limits becomes read-only, not deleted. You can view, export and delete it, and you can edit again once you resubscribe or bring the workspace within its limits.

Refunds

Payments are non-refundable, except where the law requires a refund or as stated here:

  • Cancelling doesn't refund the rest of the current period, monthly or annual. You keep your paid features until it ends.
  • Our billing mistakes, such as a duplicate charge or a charge after you cancelled, are always refunded in full. Email billing@motionscript.dev.
  • Discontinuing the Service. If we discontinue the Service, we refund prepaid fees for the unused period.
  • Goodwill refunds. We may give one in other cases at our discretion. Doing so once doesn't commit us to doing it again.

Chargebacks

If you think a charge is wrong, please email billing@motionscript.dev first. We can usually sort it out faster than your bank. If you file a chargeback for a valid charge, we may suspend paid features until it's resolved.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as described in the Terms of Service. Changes that affect what you pay apply from your next renewal, and we give at least 30 days' notice.
