The video editor that
adapts to you
Motionscript is a motion graphics editor for explainer videos where you can build your own reusable components.
Local workspace on Windows is FREE, no account needed. Cloud workspaces are in invite-only beta: join the waitlist.

Scenes, layers and commands
in one editor
Commands, not keyframes
Tell a component what to become and how long to take. The engine works out every frame in between, so there is nothing to key, nudge or re-time. Click any command to play from there.
Build with powerful Components
Plots, planes, fields, surfaces, formulas and graphs. Each one is a component you drop on the stage, set up in its panel and move with commands.
Function plot Tangent line Riemann sum Surface plot Stream lines Number plane LaTeX Network graph
Can I create reusable components?+
Yes, and they are called blocks. Save a layer with everything inside it, or a run of commands lifted off one layer, and choose which values stay adjustable: the headline text, the accent colour, whatever genuinely differs between uses. Everything else is saved as it is. The library is per workspace rather than per project, so an entrance you got right once is an entrance you use in every video after it.
Is this application free?+
Yes. The Windows app is free, with every node, command, effect and export format and nothing held back. A local workspace is just a folder on your disk: the project, its scenes and every asset are files in it, and no server ever sees them, so there is no plan to be on, no account to make, and nothing to run out of. Paid plans exist for the cloud side: more storage, syncing between devices, and sharing a workspace with other people. Cloud workspaces are in an invite-only beta for now, and nothing is charged while it runs.
Plans and pricing →Will I own my data?+
Yes. Your projects, assets and everything you export are yours; we claim no ownership of them, we don't sell them, and neither we nor our AI providers train models on them. A local workspace is plain files in a folder you choose, so copying it is backing it up, and it opens without us. A cloud workspace can come down to your disk whenever you like: Settings → Workspace has Download as local workspace, and the reverse, Upload to cloud, copies a folder into a cloud workspace (anything over a plan's limits is listed and left behind rather than dropped quietly). Finished videos export in standard formats, and your account data can be downloaded from Settings → Security.
Your content, in the terms →Do I need to write my own code?+
No. Everything is panels, a canvas and a timeline: you pick a layer, press + on its command list, choose from what that layer can do, and set the numbers in fields. There is a TypeScript escape hatch (you can write your own node types and link them into a project) but nothing on the built-in path asks for it.
Build your first video →What kinds of components are available?+
Shapes and text, images and video, layout rows and columns and masks, charts, diagrams, LaTeX and syntax-highlighted code, waveforms, a 3D viewport with meshes in it, and a UI shelf for videos about software: a cursor, a switch, a button, a window. What matters more than the count is that a type knows what it is, so a chart offers Draw Chart and Spotlight Series where eleven rectangles pretending to be a chart cannot.
The component catalogue →How do I report a bug?+
Use the form on the help page, or the Feedback button in the app, which attaches your app version and language for you. Say what you did, what you expected and what happened instead; a scene that reproduces it is worth more than a description of one. For anything about your account or a payment, email support@motionscript.dev instead. A bug in the open-source SDK itself goes on its GitHub issues.
Report it →Stop hunting for the right frame.
Say what the layer does.
The Windows app is free. Your work stays a folder on your disk unless you ask for it to be anywhere else. Cloud workspaces are in an invite-only beta: join the waitlist.

React
One hook builds the engine, another owns the session, a component draws it. Hand it a new document and it swaps it into the running canvas. Your place on the timeline is kept.
One engine per app, as many documents on it as you like. Install it in a project you already have.
Just want to make videos? You don’t need any of this, and there’s no code in the editor. Download the desktop app or open the web editor.

Built on an
open-source SDK
Every frame the editor draws comes from the Motionscript SDK: the engine and its component kits, on GitHub under Apache 2.0. Read it, fix it, or render scenes from your own code. The SDK is open source; the video editor built on it is not.
